Let’s talk skin care…

Getting old sucks… and the things that happen to our bodies after we have babies… also suck.

After my second pregnancy, I noticed my cheeks were starting to get small red spots on them. I attributed it to my hormones being out of whack and assumed it would go away. However, it started to get worse and at about 18 months postpartum, it was starting to look more like acne. I decided it was time to do something and go to the dermatologist.

She diagnosed me with “papulopustule rosacea”. UGH. It is a form of rosacea, that can also, at times, look like acne. She told me it is chronic and at this time, the best thing I can do is manage it to maintain it where it is- otherwise it will spread to my forehead and chin and just get worse. OH JOY! So, she got me set up on multiple cleansers, lotions and gels. Y’all know I am trying to live a more toxin-free life. DO YOU KNOW what those cleaners, lotions and gels were rated by the EWG. DANGEROUS is what they were rated!! That being said, I did sit tight and see what they could do for about 2-3 months. They definitely helped and maintained the spread of the rosacea. They weren’t a magic bullet that made it go away, though.

Before I started with the dermatologist, I was using the Beauty Counter cleanser, then called the Routine Cleanser, that I grabbed at one of my friends’ parties. This same friend, became a Beauty Counter Consultant about the time I was ready to be done using the nasty stuff from the dermatologst. I took my knowledge of what my skin needed and how my particular type of rosacea worked, and I decided, it was worth a try to see if I liked the whole she-bang from Beauty Counter. I grabbed a sample kit from my friend and used it for a few days and really liked the way the products felt on my face- and the smell. Y’all… the stuff from the dermatologist would stank you out of the bathroom!

It’s been about a month since I’ve been using the products and they have kept my rosacea in check just as well as the products from the dermatologist… with WAY LESS harmful ingredients and WAY better smell (my husband thanks you, Beauty Counter!).

So, here is my daily face routine:

Morning:
Nourishing Cream Cleanser

Nourishing Day Cream

Young Living Progressence Plus (on my neck)

Night:

Nourishing Cream Exfoliator

Nourishing Night Cream

Soothing Face Oil

*I add one drop of soothing face oil to my night cream. I am guessing during the summer, when my skin isn’t so dry, I will likely be using the face oil only.

FYI- Beauty Counter just released their Essential Nourishing Starter Set, which is a WAY better deal than I got just a month ago buying all of the items seperately!

Also, more good news.. Erin is giving away a Nourishing Cream Exfoliator to one lucky winner!! Place your entries below 😉
