So, I do my purging on a fairly frequent basis. I use the same guidelines I talked about in How to Capsule. At the end of summer, I look back at my spring and summer wardrobe and assess what clothes I didn’t wear, are too worn, or are out of trend (this is not many, as I try not to buy too many trendy pieces). I then look forward to my fall and winter wardrobe and decide- is there anything I want to refresh, any pieces that are out of style, or items I know I didn’t really wear the year prior.
I then hit up all of the sales going on. Typically around this time of year (Labor Day), all major retailers are having sales. There are huge discounts on spring and summer clothes, and most places also have discounts on new arrivals. Now, if you live in a super cold place, this may not work as well for you, because a lot of the “new arrivals” are fall pieces and aren’t super bulky or warm. Again, this will vary from store to store, but for me it works wonderfully, since NC doesn’t usually get too cold!
So, I’ll start with bottoms first. You can see I got rid of a few pairs. I pulled from all capsules for this purge, as I was holding on to items from my original purges and am finally ready to let go.
For my “dressy capsule” I had quite a few pieces that needed to go. Not pictured here is also a crop jacket from Ted Baker, that despite having the cutest details, is really just out of style. I NEVER wear dresses. Like, I’m talking, they get pulled out a handful of times a year for an event and maybe a date night. One of my goals is to start working on that in the coming year.
I believe my shirts will always be the largest overhaul each season. They are the most worn and easily worn-out. And lets be honest, I definitely still have some from college that need to go!
I can’t wait to come back next week and show you all of the goodies I got to replace and refresh my capsule! Be sure to keep a look out for sales at some of my favorite places over the weekend:
